چکیده

Bronchiolitis refers to an inflammatory disease primarily involving the terminal and respiratory bronchioles, and in some cases extending to the adjacent alveolar ducts and alveolar spaces.1,2 Infectious bronchiolitis is well recognized in pediatric patients, but uncommon in adults.3,4 Most pediatric cases are caused by respiratory syncytial virus. In adults, there are occasional reports of Mycoplasma pneumoniae induced bronchiolitis.5,6 Here we report a case of M. pneumoniae bronchiolitis in an adult whose clinical presentation mimicked an acute attack of asthma.

Pathogenesis of lower respiratory tract infections due to Chlamydia, Mycoplasma, Legionella and viruses.

Acute infection of the lower respiratory tract comprises bronchitis, bronchiolitis, and pneumonia. From a clinical point of view it may be diYcult to distinguish these disease entities and one infection may progress into another. The most common pathogens causing these infections are the primary respiratory viruses (respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), influenza virus, adenoviruses, parainfluenza...

Interval Development of Multiple Sub-Segmental Pulmonary Embolism in Mycoplasma Pneumoniae Bronchiolitis and Pneumonia

Introduction: Cases of pulmonary embolism (PE) concurrent with Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection are rare in the medical literature. We describe a patient with M. pneumoniae bronchiolitis and pneumonia who developed multiple right-sided, subsegmental PE. Case Description: A 54-year-old man presented following one week of respiratory and constitutional symptoms. He was admitted for respiratory dis...

Bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia associated with acute Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection.

A patient with bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia (BOOP) associated with acute Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection is described. Although mycoplasmas have occasionally been associated with bronchiolitis obliterans, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first well-documented case of BOOP associated with M. pneumoniae infection. The diagnosis of BOOP was made by open-lung biopsy after ...

Induction of IL-8 by Mycoplasma pneumoniae membrane in BEAS-2B cells.

Mycoplasma pneumoniae is an extracellular pathogen, residing on mucosal surfaces of the respiratory and genital tracts. The lack of cell walls in mycoplasmas facilitates the direct contact of the bacterial membrane with the host cell. The cell membrane of mycoplasma is the major inducer of the host pathogenic response. Airway diseases caused by M. pneumoniae include bronchiolitis, bronchitis, a...
